VP Sara Duterte trial should proceed without delay- CPDG

June 8, 2025

The Council for People’s Development and Governance (CPDG) joins the growing public demand for the Senate to immediately proceed with the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.

CPDG is one of over 200 signatories to the urgent call to proceed with the impeachment trial released June 5, 2025 by the Taumbayan Ayaw sa Magnanakaw at Abusado Network Alliance (TAMA NA).

The impeachment is backed by damning evidence presented during the investigation of the House of Representatives (HOR) into the Vice President’s alleged misuse of confidential and intelligence funds. These include the release of hundreds of millions of pesos under the office of the Vice President and the Department of Education using questionable signatories and dubious documentation.

The Marcos Jr. government claims adherence to good governance with transparency and accountability prevailing in all its transactions. However, this will only happen when the rule of law is followed and erring government officials are held accountable for their actions.

The impeachment trial is not about partisan politics or family rivalries. It is a valuable political exercise for exposing corruption at the highest levels of government, and for asserting the people’s right to demand accountability from public officials.

Aside from misspending hundreds of millions in confidential and intelligence funds, and indications of unexplained wealth, Vice President Duterte is also being impeached for inciting to sedition – specifically for publicly calling for the assassination of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr., his wife, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez, viewed nationwide on social media.

The Senate has a Constitutional duty to serve the Filipino people. “Surely there are at least 12 good women and men in the Senate now, and 13 to continue the trial in the 20th Congress, who will do the right thing, act with integrity, and uphold their constitutional duty and proceed with the trial forthwith,” says Antonio Gabriel La Viña, President of the Movement Against Disinformation and CPDG Board of Trustees member. “If the Senate fails us, they should also be held accountable,” he asserted.

The people demand: IMPEACH VP SARA DUTERTE, NOW!
