The Marcos Jr. administration continues to adhere to neoliberalist policies which prioritize private corporate interest and undermines people’s rights. His Build Better More program is leading to the destruction of agricultural lands, displacing farming communities – further stunting agricultural growth in exchange for short-term economic growth.
On the day of the landless, the Council for People’s Development and Governance (CPDG) continues to assert for the rights of farmers and for people-led development; calling on the Marcos Jr. administration to prioritize its people over private profit.
Private businesses on the other hand should be made accountable to the people, exercise due diligence in the implementation of projects, and respect the people’s economic, social and cultural rights as well as their civil and political rights.
Further, we call on civil society organizations (CSOs) to stand alongside farmers, fisherfolk, development workers, and human rights advocates in asserting the Filipino people’s rights.
