People’s Review of SDG 9 | Whose Infrastructure and Industrialization?

November 30, 2021

We need sustainable Filipino industries, not foreign ones, that are deeply rooted in the local economy, driven by local science and technology, productivity and development. We need local industries that provide the people’s and nation’s needs, reap resources and capital that push the Philippines to progress on.

Currently though, Build Build Build touted as the country’s center vehicle for progress is pro-business, urban-centric, and transport-inclined, dislocates communities, not pro-poor, and drives the nation into deeper debt at the expense of every Filipino. The Quezon City Business District, the ravaging of Taliptip, building destructive dams, and other ‘development’ projects invoke consumer interests but benefit private profit over the public.
