The Council for People’s Development and Governance (CPDG) strongly calls out President Marcos Jr.’s administration for the rising number of disappeared.
We commemorate the International Day of the Disappeared with ever increasing anxiety for the families of the disappeared, with 14 enforced disappearances so far under Pres. Marcos Jr. As with many other laws supposedly upholding rights of Filipinos, we have yet to see the enforcement of Republic Act No. R.A. 10353 also known as the “Anti-Enforced or Involuntary Disappearance Act of 2012″.
Pres. Marcos Jr. committed to uphold and respect with highest regard the Filipino people’s human rights yet we are witnessing a worsening of the country’s human rights situation. It is alarming that 3.4 million Filipinos have been subjected to various forms of threats and intimidation since July 2022 to June 2024 and the numbers are rising.” The government has not even ratified the UN Convention on Enforced Disappearances.
