Civil Society Urge Incoming Administration to Uphold Human Rights, Adopt UPR recommendations
June 25, 2022
National civil society body Council for People’s Development and Governance (CPDG) and the Commission on Human Rights (CHR), with support from the United Nations in the Philippines, held a two-day consultation on the state of human rights in the country on June 22 and 23, 2022. The activity was attended by over 70 organizations and individuals from various grassroots sectors, academe and church institutions. The “CSOs’ Consultation on the UN Universal Periodic Review of the Philippines” discussed escalating violations of Filipinos’ civil and political rights (CPR) and economic, social and cultural rights (ESCR) at a time of severe health and economic crisis. The groups challenged the next administration to adopt and implement concrete recommendations from the UN Human Rights Council to help alleviate the human rights situation of the country.
